Out Of Space
What did you want to be when you were younger? I wanted to be an astronomer, I was fascinated by everything out there beyond the edge of our atmosphere. My wonderful Nana sat through repeated trips to the London Planetarium and I even had my own little telescope.
Somewhere along the line I seemed to convince myself that studying anything to do with space wasn't something I could ever achieve. Too much maths and too much physics. But since I started studying with the Open University, I've become more comfortable studying things I thought were beyond my comprehension. With the support of the OU and the Aussie my maths and science is better than anything I ever achieved at school. And there is a 'no fear' policy in force with my course choices. I don't want to ever feel held back again by preconceived ideas of what you can achieve. Well if you don't try, you never know eh?
So for the next seven months I'm going to be studying Planetary Science, looking at the other planets and bodies that share our solar system and beyond. It feels like I have made a little bit of a childhood dream come true.

Oh, Rachel, this is so awesome! It's really exciting to see you reaching out and grabbing hold of what you want (^_^) None of us should feel like there is anything we can't achieve, although it can be super scary setting out on a path you're unsure the success of. I hope you'll keep us posted on all the undoubtedly awesome things you're going to discover!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to too! I'm so glad for you that it's going so well! Keep aiming for the stars!
